Both autism and attention difficulties are types of neurological difference, evident from early childhood and throughout the lifespan - although some people aren’t diagnosed until later in life.
It presents differently in different people - our aim is to work with you to understand and adapt therapy as you need. These differences are also sometimes known as Developmental Disorders e.g. ASD and ADHD although it might also be unhelpful to frame difference as ‘disordered’.
Different ways of thinking are usually also a strength and are associated with extreme focus, creativity and new perspectives.
However, neurodiversity can also sometimes present challenges and greater likelihood of trauma, anxiety, mood and relational problems, which therapy could assist with.
Therapy doesn’t treat neurodiversity, but it can help with developing strategies around difficulties and building more self-acceptance. When these differences are part of presentation, then therapy can be tailored to your needs. For example you might need changes to the environment, or different ways of presenting and processing information. This can be worked out with your therapist to make therapy more manageable.
